What is LTI® Advantage Certification?
LTI Advantage is a package of extensions that build on the core LTI standard (v1.3) to add new features
that enable deeper integration of any tool with any LMS. LTI Advantage makes it easier for faculty to innovate and meet the unique
learning needs of students, save time spent provisioning courses, and dramatically reduce integration times.
Currently, the LTI Advantage extensions are Names and Role Provisioning Services, Deep Linking, and Assignment and Grade Services.
This Certification Suite is designed to test conformance to each of the four specifications - the core LTI 1.3 and the three service extensions.

What Versions of LTI® are important with reference to LTI Advantage Certification?
LTI Version 1.3 is the only base platform specification for LTI Advantage. Start your implementation and
certification with LTI v1.3. After you have completed your LTI v1.3 implementation begin work on implementing and certifying the extensions.
What are the LTI Extensions you are referring to?
There are three extensions that LTI Advantage is concerned with and must be deployed
and tested for completion of certification. These are:
As a Member of IMS Global am I required to acquire LTI Advantage certification?
Technically, no. However, most educational platforms are moving the LTI Advantage to take advantage
of the increased security protocols and the extensions which provide additional functionality. You are highly encourage to
move to LTI v1.3 to take advantage of these advancements. We know that many institutions will be requiring LTI Advantage
certification for their products.
Why is this Certification Suite separate from the standard LTI Certification Suite?
LTI Advantage is a new initiative and is a new Certification path. Those members
who need LTI® Certification apart from LTI version 1.3 and LTI Advantage still have access to the standard LTI Certification at
this address.
What is the time-frame for Certification for LTI Advantage?
Following the implementation of the LTI Core 1.3 your organization should begin to develop the three extensions
as soon as possible. The Certification Suite does not require you to register further to use the suite for testing - members can register
software versions as many times as needed while your group is developing the LTI Services. You are encouraged to use the standard Certification
Suite provided here in your development of the three services. Once you are confident that the three extensions are complete
(in addition to LTI 1.3 core), you may run through the entire suite and submit your results for certification
How will LTI Advantage Services be developed and tested?
Following the implementation of the LTI Core 1.3
your group should begin to develop the three services as soon as possible. The Certification Suite does

as many times as needed while your group is developing the LTI Services. You are encouraged
to use the standard Certification Suite provided here in your development of the three services. Once you

What if one of the Services doesn't apply to our software?
While working in the Certification Suite you will be given the opportunity to identify
if one or more of the extensions do not apply to your product. You will need to explain why they do not apply
to your product which will be reviewed by IMS.
